Christmas festivities in OLSS!!

The Christmas festivities in OLSS are always something our students look forward to.

From our annual prayer service, our shoe box appeal, Christmas jumper day, Christmas quiz and much more, there is always laughs and fun a plenty.

This year, our prayer service took place on the 4th of December. In keeping with tradition, Fr Kevin blessed the advent wreath and the youngest student in the school, Oisín Kilgannon, lit the first candle. The choir performed some beautiful hymns while we were treated to some fantastic music as Clodagh played the harp and Pavel played the piano. Thanks to Ms Mc Andrew, Ms Gallagher and Mr Monaghan for always putting so much work into organising our prayer service each year.

Our choir and musicians were back performing on the 10th of December as they visited Corra Iorrais’s Christmas markets. This event is for a very worthy cause, and our students always look forward to taking part. Thanks to Ms Gallagher for coordinating this performance.

On the 12th of December it was our TY students who entertained us by putting on a Variety Show. Students and teachers were treated to a selection of performances including Irish dancing, Spanish singing and even our very own school rock band!! Thanks to all the staff who helped prepare the students for this event.

In a touching display of thoughtfulness this Christmas season, our 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Religion students worked together to make care packages and write letters to people living in Irish nursing homes. As Christmas can be a lonely time for many, this initiative aims to hopefully help people feel loved and appreciated. Thanks to Ms. McGuire for working with the students on this project.

Our Gaeilge student committee organised a Christmas Card Competition which got everyone into the Christmas mood.

Well done to the winners; Linda (1st-4th) and a special well done to Miguel. A huge thank you Gaeilge Iorrais for the lovely prizes, and Gaelbhratach organisation for the Canva tutorial also.

Another highly anticipated day in the OLSS December calendar is our Christmas jumper day, organised by our student council. This year, our council decided that they would raise money for the Make a Wish Ireland foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our students and staff, they managed to raise an amazing €670.00. Well done to everyone for this incredible achievement.

To round off the Christmas celebrations, we held a very special Nollaig na mBan event in OLSS.

On 6th of January, our 1st and 2nd year girls created some mini sweet hampers and designed some beautiful thank you cards to gift to the special women in their lives. The Mná in OLSS also received some sweets in the staff room at lunch time. In keeping with the Irish tradition, Nollaig na mBan celebrates women who work tirelessly to make the Christmas season so special. This was a lovely way to mark the end of the Christmas celebrations and welcome us all back to school. Mar a deir an seanfhocal ‘Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na Daoine’.
